Andrea Mantegna and Giovanni Bellini are two of the most famous and influential artists of the Renaissance.
Through Mantegna’s wedding to Bellini’s sister Nicolosia the two painters became related by marriage; during their lives they intensively and mutually influenced each other. Mantegna’s spectacular visual inventions and his interest in antiquity made a profound impression on Giovanni Bellini. The exhibition in the Gemäldegalerie presents an abundant number of paintings and drawings by the two artists, allowing them to be compared with one another.
